Privacy Policy
Last updated 23 October 2026
Whiskaroo turns recipes from videos, websites and photos into step-by-step cooking guides. It is built to keep your information on your device. This policy explains what happens to your data.
The short version
- There are no accounts. We never ask for your name, email or password.
- Recipes are read by Apple Intelligence on your device. Your recipes, videos, photos and voice are not sent to us or to any AI service.
- We don't sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising.
What stays on your device
- Recipes, cookbook and grocery list are stored on your iPhone or iPad. If iCloud is on, they also sync through your own private iCloud account, so they appear on your other devices. We can't see them. You can turn this off in the app's Settings.
- Microphone and speech. When you cook hands-free, your voice is turned into text on your device by Apple's speech recognition so Whisky can follow commands and answer questions. Audio is not recorded or uploaded by us.
- Videos and photos you choose to import are read on your device (speech and on-screen text) and are not uploaded. Whiskaroo only sees the items you pick.
- Translations of recipes and questions are done by Apple's on-device translation.
- Camera is only used if you choose to photograph a recipe.
What leaves your device
- Links you open. When you give Whiskaroo a link, it downloads that page or video information (for example, the recipe page, video title, description and captions) directly from that website, just like a browser would. Those sites receive the request under their own privacy policies.
- Searches. When you type a dish instead of a link, Whiskaroo searches Google for it and shows the results in the app. Google receives the words you searched, under Google's privacy policy. No search history is kept on your device.
- Featured recipes. The app downloads the list of featured recipes from this website. That request doesn't include anything about you.
- Purchases. Payments are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your card details. We receive confirmation that a purchase was made so the app can unlock.
- Paywall and app usage analytics. We use Superwall to show the upgrade screen and measure how it performs. Superwall receives a random anonymous identifier, basic device information (such as device model, iOS version, language and country), events such as when the upgrade screen is shown or a purchase is made, how many recipes have been made, and the answers you give in the welcome screens (what gets in the way when you cook, the kinds of food you like, and anything you type in "Something else"). This is not linked to your name or contact details. See Superwall's privacy policy.
Children
Whiskaroo is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Your choices
- You can turn off microphone, speech recognition, photos or camera access at any time in iOS Settings.
- You can skip the "Something else" box in the welcome screens.
- Deleting the app deletes your recipes and grocery list from the device. Turning off iCloud in the app's Settings stops syncing.
- To ask about or delete analytics data linked to your anonymous identifier, contact us below.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date above.
